Recurrent Miscarriage Treatment in Connecticut

On average, nearly one in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage, while women under 35 have a slightly lower miscarriage rate of about 20%. Miscarriage is surprisingly common, with most women experiencing one before they are even aware they are pregnant. Recently, the media was abuzz over the news that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan had experienced multiple miscarriages before their current pregnancy. Their experience shined a light on a few important points about recurrent miscarriage: the topic is often not openly discussed, underlying issues may not have been adequately treated by doctors in the past, and there is hope for patients who have experienced multiple miscarriages. Our Connecticut fertility centers offer comprehensive treatment for recurrent miscarriages.

Causes of Miscarriage

  • Genetic and chromosomal abnormalities
  • Hormonal abnormalities
  • Anatomic uterine issues
  • Blood clotting
  • Infections
  • Autoimmunity
  • Unknown causes.

Recurrent Miscarriage Treatment in Connecticut
If you have suffered two or more consecutive miscarriages, it may be beneficial to seek treatment at our Connecticut fertility centers. The good news is that many causes of miscarriage can be treated and, with assistance, patients can experience a normal term pregnancy.

Common miscarriage treatment may include:

  • Anatomic testing of the uterus. Often this is completed through a simple procedure called a sonohysterogram or a hysteroscopy, which helps Dr. Levi to view the uterus and discover any abnormalities in shape, cysts, or polyps that can interfere with a normal pregnancy.
  • Blood testing. After a miscarriage, blood tests can help determine whether enough hormones are being produced, whether you may have had an infection, or if miscarriage may have been related to being Rh negative.
  • Uterine lining biopsy. A biopsy can help determine if the lining can support a pregnancy and whether your hormones are balanced.
  • Chromosomal testing. More than half of miscarriages before 13 weeks are caused by chromosomal abnormalities. You and your partner may be required to complete a blood test for chromosomal testing.

While miscarriage may be considered common, we understand that they are painful. Our Connecticut fertility center is dedicated to helping our patients realize their desire to have a child.
