Sperm Freezing Provides Peace of Mind

Sperm freezing puts fertility concerns on ice

When so much is unknown on your fertility journey, Park Avenue Fertility and Reproductive Medicine offers our patients sperm freezing in Connecticut to provide peace of mind. Sometimes using fresh sperm isn’t possible for fertility treatments such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or IVF. Fortunately, our male patients can have access to their own frozen sperm when the time is right.

Our fertility clinic is led by Dr. Andrew Levi, an award-winning reproductive endocrinologist who puts patients first. In that spirit, this cryopreservation option is only available to those who are active patients using their own sperm to build a family. Our patients are not typically looking for long-term storage for frozen sperm. To be clear, we are not equipped as a sperm bank and do not store donor sperm.

Freezing sperm provides additional options

During the initial stages of fertility testing, a semen analysis can determine if a man might consider sperm freezing. The ready availability of enough quality sperm is crucial to successful fertility treatment. For some, the ability to access frozen sperm can provide both reassurance and greater flexibility.

Not only is the process of freezing sperm straightforward, but it is also convenient, thanks to our on-site lab. Once a sperm sample is provided, our lab specialist can examine the sperm’s quality, motility (movement), and viability before securely cryopreserving the sample.

Using frozen sperm is a time-tested option in fertility treatment that has been around for decades. Park Avenue Fertility patients opting for sperm freezing in Connecticut have greater control over reproductive options for several reasons.

  • Production concerns. Challenges with sperm production are not uncommon. Cryopreserving sperm can provide a backup option on egg retrieval day and ease concerns.
  • Specimen quality. Men with low sperm count often consider freezing sperm. This provides an alternative if their fresh sample does not have viable sperm.
  • Travel issues. If the male partner is unable to be physically present to produce a sperm sample on egg retrieval day, we can freeze sperm and move forward with fertilization. Sperm freezing provides a great option for patients who travel often or cannot anticipate their schedule.
